BIO
I was born and named Rebecca Jane Rackin in Newark, New Jersey in 1959, and spent my first few years in Illinois, before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After a short time in West Philadelphia, my family moved to Germantown in 1963.
I attended Germantown Friends School for 13 years before going to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York in 1977. At the time, Vassar did not offer a studio art degree so I majored in Art History. After studying in Florence, Italy, and graduating from Vassar, I studied at Tyler School of Art from 1981-1982.
I spent many years working in the commercial printing and publishing industries while taking evening and Saturday printmaking classes at Fleisher Art Memorial. I received an MFA in Book Arts/Printmaking from the University of the Arts in 1993.
I have taught in many schools and art centers including Fleisher Art Memorial, Abington Art Center, Main Line Arts Center, Bala House, Germantown Friends School, and Springside School.
I taught students of all ages at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for over twenty years. I retired from full time teaching in 2019. I currently teach adult Watercolor classes at The Allens Lane Art Center and Watercolor and Collage through the Mount Airy Learning Tree.
